RESPONSIBILITIES

Recognizing that the Academic Support Centre (ASC) Coordinator functions embrace a broad range of roles and responsibilities, it is important to note that not all functions are contained within this position description, and the position itself will be ever-changing and adaptive. Nevertheless, specific roles and responsibilities allocated to this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Abide by and organize through ASC’s 3 pillars which include Academic Advocacy, Academic Services and Resource Streamline Initiative. 

  • In collaboration with the Vice President Academics and University Affairs, organize events, initiatives, and workshops surrounding academic advocacy which include, and are not limited to Know Your Rights Series, Tabling and Outreach etc, 

  • In collaboration with the Vice President Academics and University Affairs execute and organize SCSU's academic campaigns such as Put Equity in Academics and Fight the Fees. 

  • In collaboration with the Equity Services and Policy Coordinator and Vice President Academics and University Affairs, maintain an organized rental system for the Laptop Rental Program; 

  • Maintain and organize the ASC’s Free Printing Service through scheduling and tracking volunteer overview of the service; 

  • Assist in running the mentorship program through the hiring of mentors, selection of mentees and the logistics of the overall program. 

  • In collaboration with the Vice President Academics and University Affairs and the Equity Services and Policy Coordinator curate career building services to enhance UTSC students’ academic journeys.  

  • Organize and curate a presentation for the President, Vice President Academics and University Affairs, Vice President Equity and the Appointed Board Member for SCSU’s Academic Bursary.

  • In collaboration with the Equity Services and Policy Coordinator, maintain and track ASC volunteers.

  • Host weekly and as regularly as needed check-ins with the Equity Services and Policy Coordinator and Vice President Academics and University Affairs. 

  • Maintain office hours/drop-in sessions and scheduling volunteers, as needed

  • Abide by the SCSU’s By-laws and Procedures and always act in good faith in protecting the SCSU’s property.


REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in managing volunteer groups, service coordination, marketing and advertising is preferred.

  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and experience in a leadership position.

  • Proficient in working with Google Drive Applications, and the ability to conduct professional research. 

  • Professional email-etiquette while interacting on behalf of the organization.

  • Professional, accountable, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Superior verbal and written skills are an asset for presenting and communicating reports.
