RESPONSIBILITIES

Recognizing that the Racialized Students’ Collective Coordinator’s functions embrace a broad range of roles and responsibilities, it is important to note that not all functions are contained within this position description, and the position itself will be ever-changing and adaptive. Nevertheless, specific roles and responsibilities allocated to this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain and organize the physical space of the Racialized Students’ Collective located in SL-283

  • Develop and coordinate a minimum of 1-2 events per month for the Racialized Students’ Collective

  • Liaise and maintain communication with all cultural clubs for collaboration opportunities with the Racialized Students’ Collective. 

  • Assist in the planning of new anti-racism services and campaigns for the SCSU, including but not limited to the Racialized Students’ Collective.

  • With the Equity Service Centre and Policy Coordinator, develop a volunteer training series and schedule and communicate with RSC volunteers as needed

  • Conduct the necessary research catered to students’ concerns on racism and colonialism

  • Attend off-campus meetings and conferences when requested to do so.

  • Facilitate brainstorming of creative and equitable pedagogies.

  • Assist in supporting all anti-racist and anti-colonial work done by student organizations on campus

  • Develop and maintain a strong social media presence by creating and posting graphics as needed

  • Host weekly and as regularly as needed check-ins with the Equity Services and Policy Coordinator and Vice President Equity. 

  • Maintain office hours/drop-in sessions and scheduling volunteers, as needed

  • Abide by the SCSU’s By-laws and Procedures and always act in good faith in protecting the SCSU’s property.


REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in managing volunteer groups, event coordination, marketing and advertising is preferred.

  • Experience working with BIPOC communities is considered an asset.

  • Must have a strong equity framework rooted in anti-racist and anti-colonial practices.

  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and experience in a leadership position.

  • Proficient in working with Google Drive Applications, effective in internet researching and e-mail etiquette.

  • Professional, accountable, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Superior verbal and written skills are an asset for presenting and communicating reports.
