Academic Bursary

The Academic Bursary provides supplementary financial assistance to help UTSC students cover academic expenses, including textbooks, required course materials, and other necessary academic supplies.
This bursary does not cover tuition fees.
What We Look For: A clear breakdown of the academic expenses for which funding is requested. An explanation of how the requested materials are necessary or relevant to the student's academic studies. Demonstrated financial need and an explanation of how receiving the bursary would assist the student. Supporting documentation verifying the costs and, where applicable, the academic requirements associated with the expenses.
Required Supporting Documentation: Course syllabi or outlines identifying required materials. Screenshots or PDFs of textbook listings displaying prices. Official course material lists. Receipts or invoices for eligible academic expenses. Other relevant documentation demonstrating the cost and academic necessity of the requested materials.
Emergency Support Grant

The Emergency Grant provides supplementary financial assistance to UTSC students experiencing unexpected or urgent financial hardship that affects their ability to cover essential expenses or maintain financial stability.
Examples of circumstances that may qualify include:
Unexpected medical or healthcare-related expenses.
Sudden loss of employment or income.
Housing instability or urgent housing-related expenses.
Unexpected family or personal emergencies.
Other unforeseen circumstances resulting in significant financial hardship.
What We Look For: A clear explanation of the emergency or unexpected circumstances, including when the situation occurred. An explanation of how the emergency has affected the applicant's financial circumstances. A breakdown of the expenses for which assistance is requested. An explanation of why financial assistance is required at this time. Supporting documentation demonstrating the emergency's financial impact and associated expenses.
Required Supporting Documentation: Bills, invoices, or receipts demonstrating unexpected expenses. Rent notices, overdue payment notices, or housing-related documents. Employment-related documentation demonstrating loss or reduction of income. Medical bills or expense statements. Other relevant documentation demonstrating the circumstances and financial impact of the emergency.
Where formal documentation is unavailable, applicants should explain the circumstances and provide alternative supporting evidence.
Transit Grant

The Transit Grant provides supplementary financial assistance to help UTSC students cover transportation-related expenses and alleviate the financial burden of commuting to campus, employment, and other essential commitments.
What We Look For: Identification of the applicant's regular mode(s) of transportation. An explanation of why the applicant relies on their chosen mode(s) of transportation, including factors such as distance, accessibility, scheduling, or availability of alternatives. A breakdown of transportation expenses, including frequency of travel and estimated weekly or monthly costs. Demonstrated financial need and an explanation of how transportation expenses affect the applicant's financial circumstances. Supporting documentation verifying transportation costs.
Required Supporting Documentation: PRESTO transaction histories, transit fare receipts, or monthly pass purchases. Screenshots of applicable transportation fares. Other relevant documentation demonstrating commuting-related expenses.
Dollar for Daycare

The Dollar for Daycare Grant provides supplementary financial assistance to UTSC student parents and caregivers to help cover childcare-related expenses. The grant aims to alleviate the financial burden of childcare and support students balancing their academic responsibilities with parenting or caregiving commitments.
What We Look For: A description of the applicant's current or required childcare arrangements. An explanation of why childcare is necessary and how it supports the applicant's academic responsibilities. A breakdown of childcare expenses, including the frequency of care and associated weekly or monthly costs. Demonstrated financial need and an explanation of how childcare expenses affect the applicant's financial circumstances. Supporting documentation verifying the childcare expenses identified.
Required Supporting Documentation: Daycare invoices or receipts. Childcare registration or enrolment documentation. Payment records or statements demonstrating childcare expenses. Official childcare fee schedules or quotations. Other relevant documentation verifying the nature and cost of childcare services.
Applicants may redact unrelated sensitive personal information, including information about their children, provided the documentation still allows the committee to verify the expense.
Trans Well-being Grant

The Trans Wellbeing Grant provides supplementary financial assistance to help UTSC students cover expenses associated with gender-affirming care, treatments, services, and resources that support their personal wellbeing. The grant aims to reduce financial barriers to accessing gender-affirming care and wellbeing-related necessities.
What We Look For: A clear description of the treatment, service, or resource for which funding is requested. An explanation of how the requested expense supports the applicant's physical, mental, or emotional wellbeing. A breakdown of the associated costs. Demonstrated financial need and an explanation of barriers to accessing the requested support. Supporting documentation verifying the requested expenses.
Applicants are not required to disclose their medical history, provide a diagnosis, or justify their gender identity.
Required Supporting Documentation: Receipts or invoices for treatments, services, or resources. Cost estimates or quotations from providers. Screenshots or official price listings. Other relevant documentation demonstrating the nature and cost of the requested expense.
Applicants may redact unrelated sensitive personal information from their documentation.
The Storwell Foster Children Bursary Program
Storwell offers an annual $2,000 bursary to help foster children attend post-secondary schools and to offer a hand up as they make their way forward in life.
Please note, this is an external application process that does not directly involve SCSU. SCSU is simply helping to promote the grant to students. All questions regarding this grant should be directed to Storwell.
In response to the growing number of foster children and youth in care that struggle to afford post-secondary studies, Storwell has developed the Storwell Foster Children Bursary Program.
