The Scarborough Campus Students' Union (SCSU), Local 99 of the Canadian Federation of Students, is the official student government representing undergraduate students at the University of Toronto Scarborough. The SCSU advocates on behalf of students while providing essential services, events, campaigns, club support, resource centres, and opportunities that enhance the student experience.
The SCSU is a student-driven organization that relies on active student involvement to shape its priorities and initiatives. Students determine the direction of the Union through their elected representatives on the SCSU Board of Directors. To learn more, visit www.scsu.ca.
Job Description
The Web Administrator will work closely with the SCSU President, Executive Committee, Communications Department, and Executive Director to manage, maintain, and continuously improve the SCSU website and associated digital platforms. Key responsibilities include updating website content, troubleshooting technical issues, improving website functionality, monitoring website performance, and ensuring an accessible, secure, and user-friendly online experience for students. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Communications Department to support campaigns, events, services, and student engagement initiatives while ensuring the website remains current and aligned with the SCSU's mission and strategic priorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the SCSU website and associated online platforms.
Work collaboratively with the Communications Department to establish an effective workflow for website projects, updates, and digital initiatives as directed by the Executive Committee.
Implement website improvements that enhance accessibility, functionality, navigation, and overall user experience.
Ensure all website content is accurate, current, and consistent with SCSU branding.
Collaborate with the Graphic Designers to implement design updates and visual enhancements.
Coordinate with the President, Vice-President Operations, Executive Director, and Marketing & Communications Department regarding website updates, maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical support.
Monitor website performance and recommend improvements to functionality and user engagement.
Assist in maintaining website security, backups, and software updates.
Support the creation of webpages for campaigns, elections, services, events, clubs, and resource centres.
Maintain website accessibility standards in accordance with AODA and best practices.
Report completed projects, assigned work, accomplishments, and hours worked to the President, Vice-President Operations, and Executive Director on a bi-weekly basis.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Highly organized with strong time-management skills.
Knowledge of UI/UX design principles.
Experience with website design, development, and content management systems (Squarespace experience is considered an asset).
Proficiency in HTML and CSS; knowledge of JavaScript and PHP is considered an asset.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Reliable, punctual, and professional.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Excellent attention to detail, ensuring all web content is accurate, visually appealing, and error-free.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Familiarity with responsive web design and accessibility standards.
Basic understanding of SEO principles and website analytics is considered an asset.
Creative problem-solving skills and an eye for design.
Strong research skills and ability to independently troubleshoot technical issues.
