The Scarborough Campus Students' Union (SCSU), Local 99 of the Canadian Federation of Students, is the official student government representing undergraduate students at the University of Toronto Scarborough. The SCSU advocates on behalf of students while providing services, events, campaigns, resource centres, and opportunities that enhance the student experience.

The SCSU is a student-driven organization committed to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and accessible campus community. Through advocacy, services, and community engagement, the SCSU works to address barriers facing students and ensure they have access to the supports they need to succeed both academically and personally.

Job Description

The Community Care Centre Coordinator will work closely with the SCSU President, Executive Director, and community partners to coordinate the operations of the Community Care Centre.

The Community Care Centre serves as a centralized resource hub that connects students to on-campus, community, and SCSU services through education, advocacy, referrals, outreach, and programming. The Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Centre while developing initiatives that promote student well-being, accessibility, equity, and community care.

Key duties include maintaining the Centre's resource database, coordinating workshops and awareness campaigns, supporting students through resource navigation and referrals, supervising volunteers, building partnerships with campus and community organizations, and promoting the Centre's services through outreach initiatives.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Community Care Centre.

  • Develop, maintain, and regularly update the Community Care Centre's resource hub, ensuring resources remain current, accurate, and accessible.

  • Connect students with appropriate campus and community services through information sharing, referrals, and resource navigation.

  • Coordinate educational workshops, awareness campaigns, and outreach initiatives related to the Centre's service pillars.

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with University departments, student organizations, and external community agencies to expand student support services.

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support Community Care Centre volunteers and Volunteer Leads.

  • Assist with planning and coordinating programming related to mental health, financial wellness, emergency housing, sexual violence prevention, and supports for equity-deserving communities.

  • Collaborate with the Communications Department to promote Centre services through social media, newsletters, website updates, and promotional materials.

  • Collect student feedback through surveys, consultations, and engagement initiatives to assess community needs and improve services.

  • Conduct research on emerging student needs and identify gaps in existing campus and community supports.

  • Maintain confidential records while adhering to privacy and confidentiality standards.

  • Assist with developing annual programming plans, reports, and recommendations for the Executive Committee.

  • Monitor Centre usage, programming outcomes, and service statistics for reporting purposes.

  • Report all accomplishments, assigned projects, programming updates, and hours worked to the President, and Executive Director on a bi-weekly basis.


REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Highly organized with excellent time-management skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, accessibility, student advocacy, and community engagement.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

  • Experience coordinating events, programs, volunteers, or community initiatives.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

  • Comfortable working with diverse student populations and equity-deserving communities.

  • Experience conducting research, outreach, or community engagement is considered an asset.

  • Familiarity with campus and community resources is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and student-centered practices is considered an asset.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and virtual communication platforms.
