The Scarborough Campus Students’ Union (SCSU) is the not-for-profit organization that represents all full-time and part-time undergraduate students at the University of Toronto Scarborough and provides to its members a broad range of advocacy, services and events. The Student Centre is operated by the SCSU and serves as the central hub for student life/services on the UTSC campus.

OBJECTIVE

The Orientation Seniors understands student success and is committed to providing a positive experience for all new, incoming students. Orientation includes a series of events and activities designed to introduce first year students to university life, which includes meeting faculty/staff/student leaders, and learning about available programs, resources and services.  The Orientation Seniors is committed to helping first year students find opportunities to get involved as well as connecting incoming students to their new campus community. 

The Orientation Seniors will work closely with SCSU executives and staff to oversee all aspects of Orientation.

Though not a requirement, it is an asset if applicants that have previous orientation experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Orientation Seniors position includes a broad range of roles and responsibilities, and not all functions are contained within this position description as the position is ever-changing and adaptive. However, specific roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervise and coordinate event set-up, clean up, and food preparations.

  • Ensure other Orientation Seniors and Orientation Group Leaders assist with the logistics.

  • Supervise Orientation Registration and maintain the registration database.

  • Ensure that Registration runs smoothly and in accordance to the Orientation schedule.

  • During SCSU Orientation, communicate to the Orientation Coordinators the progress of all operations, including, but not limited to, registration activities and first-year department whereabouts. 

  • Attend all Orientation Team meetings and attend all Orientation Training Session 

  • Oversee disciplinary issues at Orientation events as designated by the SCSU Orientation Coordinators.

  • Ensuring that Orientation events are running safely and in accordance to the Orientation schedule.

  • Motivate and inspire the Orientation Volunteer team.

  • Ensuring that participants of the Orientation events are energetic and active.

  • Make appropriate referrals when necessary (e.g. Campus Police).

  • Responsible for the orderly and efficient logistical operation of assigned Orientation events.

  • Must conform to the portfolio set out by the SCSU Orientation Coordinators and report all activities to the SCSU Orientation Coordinators. 

  • If requested by the Orientation Coordinators, or VP Campus Life, Orientation Seniors must be prepared to wear the Rex’s Mascot Costume for the period of the event.

  • Attend all Parade Committee meetings, and act as a liaison between the tri-campus committee, and the Orientation Executive team (specifically, Logistical Leader Supervisors)
