Discount TTC Metropasses

For commuter students attending UTSC, public transit is an essential means of getting to class in a timely manner. In recent years, however, the cost of using public transit within the City of Toronto has spiraled upward due to declining provincial and federal government funding, and rising systems maintenance costs. In an effort to ease the financial strain on its student members, the SCSU in collaboration with other local student organizations has successfully lobbied the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) to offer a reduced monthly transit rate.

Near the end of each month, the SCSU offers a limited number of discounted monthly TTC Metropasses at a rate of $96.00 per pass ($107 from March 2010). These passes can be purchased at the SCSU office, payable by Interac (debit) only. The Metropass sales are first-come, first-serve in guaranteed block increments over a pre-determined number of days. For up-to-date information on the start dates and times of sales, follow us on our  page.

The following conditions apply:

  • Debit only
  • Valid U of T identification is required for each purchase by any student, faculty, or staff.
  • Only one pass will be sold to each individual.
  • Each student must be currently registered. Non-UTSC students (from St. George or Mississauga) should present a copy of their course timetable.
  • Faculty and staff must present proof of U of T employment (employee ID, offer of employment letter, or pay stub).

You may wish to keep your Metropasses as proof of purchase in order to claim these expenses for tax savings. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is responsible for taxation details.
