Announcement from the Chair

This is an official notice to all students at the University of Toronto Scarborough.

There have been several allegations put forth in regards to the unsatisfactory performance of Zuhair Syed in his role as President & CEO of the SCSU. After becoming aware of the magnitude of such allegations, the Board of Directors decided to conduct a full audit to evaluate the performance of Zuhair Syed. In light of the facts collected from UTSC administration, students and SCSU staff, a report was compiled to assess the validity of the claims laid against the SCSU President.

On Friday December 18, 2009, the SCSU Board of Directors carried out a detailed review of the report, and analyzed the allegations that were presented. After confirming the facts of Mr. Syed’s lack of accountability and unprofessionalism, it had been decided that he would be removed from all of his official duties as President and CEO of the Union.

Under the SCSU constitution, the Board of Directors do not have the authority to completely remove an elected representative from his role. Due to this fact, although Mr. Syed will no longer be carrying out his duties as President, his title and salary remain.

Aisha Khaja, Vice President of Academics, will be taking on the presidential duties momentarily, until the Board of Directors decides on how the responsibilities of role should be distributed.

For further information, please contact Imran Khan, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
