Many students approached this course under the assumption it would involve a lot of personal and small group conversation time and they were disappointed as a result. Several report that it was far more like a regular lecture than they expected. Still, they credit Professor Mittler with sincerity and never questioned that she was making a every effort.

Many students enjoyed this class and found Professor Mittler to be very helpful insofar as she took the time to explain concepts thoroughly and graded work fairly. They also greatly appreciated the practical value of the class. However, some found the course material to be somewhat vague and, thus, would have liked it had the professor integrated a textbook, or some readings, into the course.

This was an important and unconventional course, in the opinions of many students, and they appreciated Professor Mittler's development of the subject matter. Reactions to English language instruction with the option to work in French were mixed, but all agree the course itself was very valuable.
