Students thought that the course material was interesting, and was clearly applicable to everyday life. However, Professor Furlong's high expectations for an introductory course were intimidating to some, with large amounts of material being covered very quickly. They felt that the professor was impolite at times, leaving some students hesitant to ask questions. Several felt that more time allotted for student questions and to write exams would improve their learning experience.

Professor Furlong was complimented for being able to keep student interest despite the lengthy 3-hour lecture. At times students felt that the Professor talked to fast and that it was hard to keep up. Some students commented that the tutorials as they were currently designed weren't very useful. The course was a good learning experience overall.

Students found this course effective and very applicable to 'real' life. They found Professor Furlong's prepared material, especially problem sheets, very helpful. A few students comment that his lectures were sometimes too fast for them to follow. Numerous students comment on the tutorial sections and all agree that they are important to success in this class. Those with effective tutorial leaders credit them with being very helpful, those with less successful leaders felt they were losing out.

However students felt that tutorials were too large and required further improvement in quality. Students also suggested that the continuous 3 hour lecture be distributed over several days.

Students unanimously agreed that Professor Furlong was enthusiastic, organized and highly motivated. His use of specific examples of current world economy helped students relate theories learned in class to the ever-changing world. His notes and detailed explanations of theories were also noted to be extremely helpful. Some students felt the 70% allotted for the final, could have been spread evenly throughout the semester.

It was suggested by some that a proper textbook with assigned readings would have been helpful. There was a mixed reaction to Professor Furlong's teaching methods and rubric(s). While some students agreed with Professor Furlong's "in-depth knowledge" and found him to be an enthusiastic instructor, others noted theory examples and graphs were left unexplained. Finally, the midterm should have been the full 1.5 hours instead of cutting into the time with exam handouts and announcements.
