Students had various concerns with this course. While they acknowledge the course readings and material have a certain natural interest they were disappointed with the way it was presented. Several note that lectures did not introduce any new material and were redundant in combination with readings. Others suggest that too much focus was spent on indie media to the exclusion of dominant forms of media, which might be assumed to have greater impact. Several students also feel the course did not focus adequately on women's issues but rather spent more time on race, sexuality, class, etc. Reactions were mixed, however, and Professor Newman has her share of enthusiastic fans.
