Many students found Professor Chan to be an experienced and effective instructor who was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Students liked the Professor's use of personal experiences and up to date examples in teaching the material. He was able to explain concepts clearly. Students had criticisms about the tutorial which, some felt, had little value. They felt that the tutorials could be improved by offering more help for those not comfortable constructing websites and by having TAs better leading the tutorials. Overall, students found the lecture portion of the course to be very interesting and fun.

The use of a textbook or a course reader is necessary due to the bulk of the reading. The addition of a tutorial is required to discuss the readings in more depth. The lectures needed to have more structure and detail as it was difficult to pinpoint relevant information. Exams and tests need to be more specific as it was difficult to answer questions. Both the material and the professor were engaging but due to the way the course was formatted, it was very difficult to get a firm grasp on all the topics covered.
