Students found this course incredibly overwhelming, mostly due to the sheer volume of readings to do. Many commented that there were far too many readings, particularly for a B-level course. Students could tell that Professor Birn was knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, but were dismayed when she crammed a lot of information into the lectures, making it difficult to follow. The course outlines posted on the Intranet were confusing, and the assignments were difficult with unclear expectations and mark breakdown. Many students praised the TA, Rene, though some found the tutorials unhelpful.

Students mostly liked the class and found the material interesting and thought-provoking. However, many also noted the amount of readings was too much to handle. Lots of students mentioned the pace of classes was a bit fast, while the lecture notes lacked details and class materials were not available online. Some also found the instructions for assignments ambiguous to follow. The tutorials and the T.A. however, got a lot of positive feedback.
