Professor Gurd was very knowledgeable about the course material, and gave very interesting lectures. Students appreciated the time that the instructor took to explain complex concepts, as a lot of material was covered in the course.

Professor Gurd was complimented on making an otherwise difficult course enjoyable and understandable. He was noted as being knowledgeable and approachable. One thing that students noted on the negative side was that the lecture notes posted were never in the order lectured on which made things difficult to follow and study from.

Students felt Professor Gurd was very effective as a lecturer and conveyed material in concise and memorable fashion. Most concerns revolved around the availability and form of notes, as students appreciated on-line lecture notes but felt they showed up too late and were frequently modified. Not unusually, several students felt this course was too hard and there was too much material to cover.

Students enjoyed the opportunity to do lab work, and most were satisfied with Professor Gurd's lecture style, but many cite the difficulty and workload of this course as a barrier. A few students suggest the course needs a textbook assigned, as lecture notes and in-class instruction don't seem to be sufficient.
