Students thought Professor Lowman gave interesting and informative lectures. They thought that he explained concepts well, was very organized and was very knowledgeable of astronomy. Although this course did not require any prerequisites, some students without a physics/science background found this course difficult. Some students also thought that tutorials did not help cover questions on the course material. One suggestion students had for Professor Lowman was to correlate the weekly assignments with the current week?s lecture topics.

Students thought Professor Lowman was an excellent and knowledgeable instructor. However, many found that the tutorials to be badly structured and that the assignments deviated from the course material taught in the class. Some students felt that the course was geared towards science students, even though it was not a pre-requisite in the calendar. Others felt that weekly tutorials were necessary to excel in the course.

Comments suggest that Professor Lowman was not an especially engaging lecturer but students appreciated his sincerity and work ethic. For example, while he might not be especially good at fielding impromptu questions he always followed up with more information later. Students felt the course could be improved by more organization but a less rigid adherence to the text. Several comments expressed dissatisfaction with the tutorials and TAs, which students did not find helpful.

Students felt that Professor Lowmann was an outstanding physics professor. His knowledge enabled him to effectively explain the concepts of this course. Students extremely appreciated being provided with full solutions for all quizzes, assignments and midterms. Some thought more examples should have been done that were not from the textbook.
