Reactions are mixed about this course. While a lot of students enjoyed professor Berry's class, a number of them found the classes to be slow and disorganized. Similarly, while some students found the course material too easy or overlapping with other IDS-required courses, some found it too broad and confusing. A lot of students also expressed the need for more multi-media teaching methods and improvement on the tutorials, TA, and marking of assignments. Lecture handouts and past exam papers are generally helpful for the students.

Students in this class were complimentary of Professor Berry's breadth of knowledge and his lecture style. Some found that excessive detail led to very long lecture monologues that might be broken up a bit in order to better hold attention, but most agreed the material is quite valuable and was well presented by Professor Berry.

Professor Berry is an enthusiastic, helpful, and patient instructor. He is very fair, caring, and understanding when it comes to the students' best. Students found him thoughtful for providing lecture notes weekly. He created an enjoyable learning environment. He presented material in a well-organized manner and made concepts easy to understand. It is suggested that more assignments be given to provide more opportunities to do well rather than having a few large assignments worth a great amount. This professor communicated well and answered questions effectively. Overall, the material was relevant and directly applied to current world issues. A good course for better understanding international development.
