Students felt Professor Pilon was an engaging and effective lecturer, and note especially that he adopted PowerPoint as a new aspect of his lectures and used it to good effect. Several note that he made otherwise dry aspects of politics comprehensible and even interesting for them. Some comment that the value of the tutorials was not as high as the lecture.

Professor Manzer is very knowledgeable. Students found that the use of overheads in the lectures was excessive, that they took away from the interest of the lectures, and made it difficult to concentrate. It is suggested that different methods be used for presentations such as Powerpoint without a great deal of charts and tables. It is strongly suggested that the professor posts his lecture notes and outlines online. At times, students felt that the lectures were too fast and at times the professor needed to be more assertive in controlling the class. The course text was good but at times concepts were confusing. Also, more definitions and more thorough review of those definitions would be helpful when studying for the exam.

Students in this course found Professor Farrell very likable and personable, and appreciated his detailed powerpoint notes posted on the internet. Some felt it would have been more helpful to have the notes up even more in advance of class, while others were concerned the notes were so good that the lectures were redundant and thus were a disincentive to attend. Regardless, students give Professor Farrell much praise for his lecture style.

Most students felt that Professor Jayman was knowledgeable in his field and used a variety of examples, including some from personal experience to clarify concepts. Students found the readings to be quite valuable, which helped them get through some of the more dense material. However, students felt that there was a lack of communication between the T.A. and Professor Jayman, expressing the need for sharper organization. Some students felt that the lecture would have been livelier if Professor Jaymen did not read off the slides as often.

Students felt that Professor Kingston was very fast paced. He had a way of lecturing that would touch on many topics in an order that was somewhat confusing. However, an overwhelming number of students appreciated Paul Kingston's very knowledgeable and enthusiastic nature. There was a split between students who really enjoyed and appreciated the tutorials and the TAs, and those who felt the tutorials had little value to their learning experience and that the TAs did not do a sufficient job in aiding them in their success in the course. Students would comment on the kind of discussions that took place in tutorials and valued active participation. Also, students commented that they would appreciate an outline of the lecture to be available on the intranet.

Professor Kingston is an enthusiastic professor whose interest for the material he teaches comes across in his lectures. He used good and recent examples but some felt that the lectures were a bit disorganized at times. Some students are concerned about the time management in this course because the professor frequently ran out of time during the lectures. Many felt that there was too much reading for a half course. Some enjoyed the discussion that took place in the lectures. It is suggested that more feedback be provided on returned tests and essays within a reasonable time so that students can do better work and improve their grades. In general, an interesting course.

Many students expressed that the class was made tolerable by having an excellent professor. Lectures were presented in such a way that they never 'droned on' and were clear and concise. Many praised the professor's exceptional knowledge of the subject. Some, however, felt that the exams were quite harsh and demanding with not many chances given for adequate preparation. A few students also felt that it would be benefitial if the professor used the same text as they used.

There were many concerns for this course. In general, students found the course material and topics interesting and the textbook very useful. Professor Norrlof is very intelligent and knowledgeable; however, she did not effectively convey the course material. The professor needed to communicate more effectively, be more organized and prepared, and be more enthusiastic during the lectures. Many felt that the professor was not approachable, the lectures were not as efficient as they could be, questions needed to be answered more effectively, more availability from the professor during office hours was needed, and that the overheads could be more detailed. Also, that the professor needed to speak slower during the lectures, use more relevant examples, and have more patience with the class. Some students felt that other students needed to be more respectful to the professor and not cause interruptions during the lectures. Some concerns were that the class started too late, the class ended too early, the breaks were very long, assignments needed more feedback and comments, and too much time was spent during lectures trying to figure out how to operate the audio visual equipment for PowerPoints and mics. Others felt that the professor failed to realize that the course doesn't require any prior background knowledge and some felt that the professor appeared to have difficulty adjusting as an instructor at UTSC. Overall, many were disappointed with this course and the professor and felt that this course was not beneficial.

Students enjoyed having guest speakers in this course. There were mixed feelings about the discussions and quizzes in this course. While some felt that the discussions were good, others felt that there needs to be more structure to them so that the notes, articles, and reading questions are more efficiently discussed. Some were content with having weekly quizzes since they helped clarify the material from the readings while others felt that they were not effective methods of evaluation. Some concerns were that there was a lot of reading, group projects might not effectively reflect a student's understanding of the course material, reading questions and lecture notes were not posted online within a reasonable amount of time. Also, not having background information prior to taking this course made it a bit more challenging to fully grasp the course material. Overall, this was an interesting course and a knowledgeable professor.

Professor Manzer is a patient and fun professor who illustrates a passion for his course. His method of teaching is very clear and effective. Students appreciated that he attended to questions and concerns and explained material with good use of examples. It would be more helpful if the professor communicated the expectations of assignments more clearly. Since there were only two evaluations worth 30% each, there was no variety in the assignments to allow room for the improvement of marks. It is suggested that quality of the overheads be improved and to possibly distribute the pertinent information to the class. It was difficult to read all of the required readings since many of them were only available in the library and were on reserve. Given the volume of students in the class, a prepared reading package would have been helpful instead. An excellent course.
