No students in this class seem to doubt Professor Gentleman's knowledge of chemistry but many have criticisms or had difficulties with the way he went about transmitting it. Various concerns include his quiet speech and tendency to stop entirely to wait out classroom disruptions, an excessive focus on the history of chemistry rather than the core (and tested) material of the course, and a sense that he was deliberately teaching above the level of the class. Several students also noted that turning off the lights for PowerPoint presentations wasn't required to see the screen and only made them sleepy.

Student in this class had trouble identifying important material from the bulk of information presented, including the history of chemistry, biographies of important figures, pictures on the slides, etc. A few students found this extra information interesting, but most felt lost and disconnected. Comments about Professor Gentleman's volume and insistence on quiet in the classroom were repeated (see section one of this course) but several students also appreciated his control over the classroom.

Students were very impressed with the depth of Professor Gentleman's knowledge and his creative (and CSI-themed) approach to chemistry. Many were very critical of the total workload in the class, however, and felt it was unreasonable in the context of a full course load. Students were also unhappy they did not receive their lab reports back and felt it hindered their ability to learn from past mistakes. With a very low average on the midterm many students seem torn between the interest and challenge of the course and a basic need to survive.

Overall, most students felt that while Professor Fraser?s class was relatively difficult, he did a very a good job of explaining the topics during lecture. Students were welcome to ask questions during class, and were encouraged to seek help during office hours and after class. His assignments and tests were thought to be fair and his more difficult questions were balanced by lenient grading. However, one issue some students had was with his course calendar description, which did not indicate how math-based the class was, and the professor did not follow the textbook at all.

All students enjoyed Dr. Chandrasekhar's enthusiasm and energy, although many requested that she slow down her rate of speaking as her accent could make her difficult to understand at times. Many students pointed out that she was clearly concerned that all students understand the somewhat difficult material, and that she was very helpful outside of the classroom as well. As notes had to be taken by hand, some students paid better attention than in other classes, but several found that the lectures did not flow logically from topic to topic, and that the readings were of little value.

Thompson was a very effective professor. However, students did suggest he speak slower in class. Tables and diagrams presented in class were very useful. Students wished that old tests and midterms were posted online for everyone, rather than only some people having them.

Overall, students felt that Professor Dalili?s lectures went very smoothly. Although her pace was a bit fast and she spoke a little too quickly at times, her lectures were well-organized and she explained the topics very well. However, some felt that outside of class she was somewhat unapproachable despite her many office hours, as one student described her as becoming impatient with students that did not understand her explanations immediately. As for the course itself, the general consensus was that the class time was much too early, and the labs were considered too crowded. Furthermore, there was concern over insufficient lab equipment while doing lab experiments.

Professor Dalili is organized and helpful. However many students are concerned that because the course load is above average, it will impede the students? ability to adequately absorb the course material. Students suggested that the Professor should slow down and explain the material more thoroughly. The students believe by doing so it would be easier to understand and enjoyable.

Students found Professor Dalili to be an excellent instructor for this especially difficult course. She had extremely well-organized lectures notes and explained the concepts thoroughly. Students were pleased with how accessible and helpful she was during office hours. A minor suggestion students have is for the Professor to do more examples in class from outside the textbook. Most complaints from the respondents centered on the tutorials, which many thought were not useful. The other anticipated discomfort was with the 8 am class time. Though students found the workload to be very high (weekly quizzes, lab quiz, tutorial quiz, pre-lab preparation and exams), Professor Dalili made the learning experience valuable.

Nevertheless, some of the respondents appreciated Professor Kandeephan for her clear explanations of concepts and knowledge of this tough subject.

Students appreciated the small class size and hands on experience of this course. They felt both the Professor and the TAs performed well and found the course a welcome break from larger and more mechanical courses. A few comments suggest a desire for more access to in-demand equipment (perhaps by extending lab times) and students who were having difficulty found the expectations of the course could be unforgiving.

Students found Professor Chandrasekhar to be an enthusiastic and incredibly helpful instructor. However, many felt that the course could have been better if she was more organized. They felt that the material presented in the lab did not always relate to the course. A few preferred that the course be taught over a full year instead of one session. Students would have also liked more assignments instead of tests, notes to be posted before lectures, and the content for the lab to be taught before they perform the labs. Despite the improvements needed, appreciated the Professor's accessibility for answering questions and providing an enjoyable experience.

Professor Potter was responsible for the lab portion of this course, and many students found the labs to be disorganized. Students stated that the marking scheme was very vague, so they did not know what the expectations of the lab reports were. Also, they found the course load of the lecture and lab to be very difficult to manage, and they would prefer it if these two parts were separated into two courses. However, students found the labs to be very interesting, but improving the organization of the labs would have made their learning experiences better.

Students were very pleased with Professor Kandeephan and felt she was responsible and fair in her conduct of the class. Most criticism was reserved for the laboratory element of this course, with many students commenting they simply didn't have enough time to complete their experiments, and a surprising number of complaints directed towards one TA in particular, under-scoring the potential disparity between lab work with the 'good' TA vs. work with the 'bad' one.

Students were very aware that Professor Mikaylichenko was a late addition as an instructor for this course and that it was her first experience as an instructor and in a foreign language at that. Despite these barriers students felt she did quite well and was engaging and approachable. Their criticism was reserved for course structure, which felt rigid and excessively difficult. But despite minor complaints regarding their instructor's accent they found their experience with her to be rewarding and expressed hope she will be back.

Overall, students enjoyed this course and found the professor to be very organized, easy to approach and very helpful. Students appreciated the fact that the professor replied to the emails and marked the tests within a reasonable time. However, students found his tests to be difficult, since there was a lot of content to study and the content itself was difficult to comprehend. Overall, the students really enjoyed this course and thought that having multiple evaluations (midterm tests, assignments, and final exam) gave them a chance to learn and improve their grades throughout the course.
