Many students in this class were concerned and frustrated that the course relied heavily on group discussion without direction rather than on lecture material presented by the instructor. Several noted that in a B-level course students cannot be expected to learn extensively from one another without guidance. Some students, in contrast, felt empowered by the flexible format of the course and noted that Professor Gorman was supportive of their efforts. Many suggested that the reader was over-priced and the required readings too extensive and under-utilized.

Dr. Cruikshank was described as an outstanding professor with a relaxed and casual teaching style. Some students suggested that the lectures cover novel material outside of readings and have more focus. Many noted the class discussions and student contributions during the lecture were unnecessary and irrelevant to course material; thus moderation of such discussions by the professor would be beneficial. A few students were not satisfied with the grading scheme for the assignments.

Students noted that Professor Newman's lectures were very clear and organized, although material was often presented too quickly to be understood. Professor Newman was also described as friendly and approachable, and students appreciated the use of appropriate feedback for essays. Students also noted that future courses should make use of the Intranet for posting lecture notes and readings.

Students had various concerns with this course. While they acknowledge the course readings and material have a certain natural interest they were disappointed with the way it was presented. Several note that lectures did not introduce any new material and were redundant in combination with readings. Others suggest that too much focus was spent on indie media to the exclusion of dominant forms of media, which might be assumed to have greater impact. Several students also feel the course did not focus adequately on women's issues but rather spent more time on race, sexuality, class, etc. Reactions were mixed, however, and Professor Newman has her share of enthusiastic fans.

This class was run in an unorganized and unstructured manner, which frustrated many students. The Professor rarely taught and depended mainly on student presentations. When the Professor did teach she tended to stray off topic easily. The mid-term was entirely multiple choice, which students felt, was inappropriate and no feedback was given on work. This class is felt to need improvement from its current structure.
