Students appreciated Professor Lin for his eloquent and well structured lectures. Some students commented that while they appreciated his on-line notes they would be more useful if they were posted with a bit more lead time before lectures. Some felt the material was inherently dull and/or difficult but did not blame Professor Lin for this and felt he made the best of it.

Many students appreciated Professor Lin's detailed notes, which were available on-line, and made suggestions for improving that system even further. Students had deep concerns, however, about the system of evaluation, which included only one quiz in addition to a heavily weighted paper and final exam, feeling this was excessive for an A-level course. Too much repetition between the content of the lectures and the content of the readings was also cited as an issue, though many appreciated Lin's ability to simplify complex topics from the readings.

On the whole, students enjoyed having Professor Hawkins as an instructor and found her to be very informative. Her expectations for the course were made very clear and she explained her concepts well. Students found that the textbook was not very helpful and found it was difficult to follow at times. Students suggested that Professor Hawkins could enhance her lectures by making use of visual aids and PowerPoint slides, as opposed to Word documents.

Many felt that the class was simply too large for a philosophy class, however, given the size students felt that Professor Hawkins did an excellent job of getting across ideas. Students also like her lecture slides although many felt it would have been helpful to have them posted earlier for review prior to the class.

Students generally found Professor Hawkins to be an able lecturer and instructor but had various concerns with organization and content. A number of students requested that lecture notes be made available in advance of each lecture rather than afterwards, though also praised the detail of the notes available. Control in the classroom was cited as a minor problem with the suggestion that more could be done to quiet talking students. The frequent and repetitive use of examples was felt by some students to be disengaging while others appreciated it as thorough. Some observed that the course was not what they expected (very common, for first year philosophy) with a focus on theory rather than case studies or issues.

Student response to this class was very mixed, with the majority of students at least satisfied with the course but with a wide variety of concerns being raised and suggestions made for improvement. Quite a number of students questioned the worth of the tutorials and the value placed on mere attendance. Others noted problems associated with the timely return of student work and adequate opportunity to learn from mistakes made on earlier work. Quite a lot of dissatisfaction was expressed with the multiple-choice format of the mid-term, but students were divided as to whether it should be improved as a system or if multiple choice is simply inappropriate to philosophy in the first place.

A large number of students seemed to enjoy this class, thanks to Professor Hawkins' knowledge and enthusiasm. The lectures were singled out as a high point of the class and many said that while they were not philosophy majors, they found it to be a valuable introduction to philosophy. The only concerns raised were that the reading could be a bit heavy at times and that it would have helped to provide notes before class.

Although students found Prof. Sobel to be nice and taught logic very well, ineffective communication lead to most of the class not showing up for lectures. Areas of improvement include correcting numerous mistakes in lecture notes, either extending time or reduce number of questions on the tests, and answering questions more appropriately.

Students express a sense that the material covered in this course was naturally more difficult that it seemed in practice because Professor Kremer was so good at presenting it and making it accessible. A few students found the two hour lectures without any break were excessive. Several students commented that this course was useful even for students not in a philosophy program and were surprised by its applicability.

The general consensus was that professor Laverty had poor communication skills. The difficulty of the course material made it such that, while the professor knew his material, students were assumed to have a background in the history and context of the course material, which made it difficult to learn properly, since many of the students didnít have a history in the course. Students did commend him for always attending to studentsí questions, and his willingness to help them learn.

Students very much appreciated Professor Sobel's breadth of knowledge suggesting that if anything he knows 'too much'. As a result of this some felt that too much knowledge was assumed of students and stages in explanation were skipped over. Some complained that lectures routinely started and ended late and also that they had trouble staying attentive. Several simply felt there was routinely too much information in not enough time.

Students found the course to be interesting content-wise, but the professor usually went on tangents that would take up the whole class. While she did seem very passionate, students have said that she was disorganized and needs to make sure that students are informed of what is going on.
