Students felt that the class was very interesting, and students especially enjoyed the cooking demonstrations. Some students did note that there were a lot of readings which were uninteresting and irrelevant. As well, students have stated that it would be helpful to post guidelines on what students needed to do for the essays and assignments, since the students weren’t sure what to expect.

Students found this course to be both a wonderful and a challenging experience. Students enjoyed Professor Bender's enthusiasm and the weekly cooking demonstrations, but felt that the course work was difficult and that the required readings were extensive.

Practically all students praised Professor Bender for his enthusiasm, high energy for the course, engaging teaching style, approachable personality, wide variety of work in grading scheme, and accessibility through office hours and e-mail. Many students loved the course material for being different from typical History courses and felt that the learning experience gained from the class is truly invaluable.

Almost every student review emphasizes Professor Bender's enthusiasm towards teaching. The only request that quite a few students had is that a break be given during his two-hour lecture. Overall, students felt it was an interesting course.
