Many students approached this course under the assumption it would involve a lot of personal and small group conversation time and they were disappointed as a result. Several report that it was far more like a regular lecture than they expected. Still, they credit Professor Mittler with sincerity and never questioned that she was making a every effort.

It is essential to have a decent French background to succeed in the course. Students found that the lectures were very useful, but would have appreciated more conversations being that this class was a conversation class. The professor was enthusiastic, organized, and approachable.

Professor Mittler was a very helpful teacher although it was difficult to mark assignments fairly, due to the variance between students in french fluency.
