Many students in this course appreciated Professor Kortenaar's knowledgeable and sensitive approach to an often underrepresented voice in literature. As in his other courses most students found the micro-compositions to be an effective grading mechanism and means of keeping up with the material. A couple students mentioned that the name and content of the course were a bit intimidating but definitely did not regret taking a chance on the course. Several remarked on their desire to take more African literature at the D-level with Professor Kortenaar, if possible.
