Students in this class were very positive about Professor Kortenaar. Quite a number referred to either seeking out his classes deliberately or else planning to do so. Several reported that despite his obvious expertise he is very open to other ideas and as a result students are encouraged to participate without fear of being 'wrong'. Many found considerable value in the weekly assignments (micro-compositions) as a means of keeping up with reading, an indication of standing in the course, and as writing practice. Many also indicated that the required reading was generally quite interesting and diverse.
