Although the students overall felt that Professor Eyles was an interesting lecturer and did a good job, there were miscellaneous concerns. Sometimes, his teaching style was hard to understand. The textbook, which the professor wrote, was also difficult to understand and needs some editing. There was also a problem involving cheating on the weekly quizzes, which was graded by the students themselves, and was not discovered until late in the semester.

Most students found the course to have a high workload because of the many methods of evaluations, including assignments, fieldtrips, field reports, biweekly quizzes and midterm. The 4-hour time slot (lecture + 3 hour lab) with no break was too long.

Students found the course enjoyable and had few concerns with Professor Eyles as either a lecturer or an instructor. They did feel the standard of expectation was too high, however, though detailed feedback on their work and assignments was some compensation for this and allowed them to improve. The field trip elements were enjoyable, though a couple students mentioned they were emphasized too heavily in testing.

Students enjoyed Professor Eyles as an instructor and most, not surprisingly, enjoyed the numerous field trips on this course. A few comment, however, the field trips were simply too much of a good thing and interfered with their other studies. Otherwise students were content.
