Many students liked Professor Lambek's lectures, saying he was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and informative. However, others felt that he seemed unwilling to answer students' questions, and found his responses somewhat unprofessional or rude. Many commented that he spoke too fast and hence spent more time trying to write rather than trying to understand the lecture. As well, many would have appreciated outlines or notes being posted on the Intranet, especially since the lectures were fast-paced. The topics were interesting but the material seemed outdated and did not give a good understanding of key concepts and ideas. Some students commented that marking on the assignments seemed unfair and subjective with insufficient feedback, and it would have been helpful to know more of their marks before going into the exam.

Students in this course felt that Professor Lambek was interesting and effective at presenting the course material, but often rushed through lectures too fast to keep track of his points and topics. Various suggestions to address this concern include the use of powerpoint or overhead projections, and notes posted on the internet after class for reference by students who were unable to get everything they wanted during the lecture.

Some students felt that there was too much reading for this course and that there needed to be more variety in the course material. Also, some mentioned that there was a lot of note-taking, which did not allow for discussion and some mentioned that the professor needed to speak louder, perhaps by using a microphone. A concern was that the lectures were sometimes hard to follow. It was suggested that having overheads in lecture, online-accessible lecture notes, and other types of visual aids outlining each lecture would perhaps decrease the number of students who lose their way in lectures.
